One of Bengali cinema’s most celebrated classics, ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’, is set to inspire a new cinematic exploration. National Award-winning filmmaker Srijit Mukherji has officially announced his upcoming film ‘Maharaja Tomare Selam’, which will delve into the story behind the making of the iconic classic.

Set against the backdrop of the turbulent 1960s, the film is expected to explore the social and political circumstances, struggles and creative journey surrounding the making of Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne. The project promises to revisit an important chapter in the history of Bengali cinema through a fresh perspective.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Jeetu Kamal, Ritwick Bhattacharya, Rudranil Ghosh, Shatakshi Nandi, Sairiti Bandyopadhyay and Arijit Dutta will be seen in key roles. However, the makers have kept the characters of the actors under wraps for now, adding an element of curiosity around the project.

‘Maharaja Tomare Selam’ is being produced by Hoichoi Studios and Friends Communication, in association with Piyali Films Pvt. Ltd. The latter’s association with the original producers of Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne adds a significant historical connection to the new project.

The excitement around the film is set to rise further on August 9, when the first-look poster of Maharaja Tomare Selam will be unveiled at Priya Cinema in the presence of the film’s cast and crew.

With Srijit Mukherji at the helm and a story connected to one of Bengali cinema’s most iconic films, ‘Maharaja Tomare Selam’ has already emerged as one of the most intriguing upcoming projects in Tollywood.
