Bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle, the Calcutta High Court has disposed of the case filed by a section of film directors after being informed that the situation in Tollywood has returned to normal and film and television shootings have been running smoothly for the past one and a half months.

During Wednesday’s hearing before Justice Amrita Sinha, the West Bengal Government informed the court that, according to a report submitted by the Additional Secretary of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department and Ex-Officio Director of Films, there have been no complaints related to shootings or work disruptions over the last six weeks.

The state further told the court that the Information & Cultural Affairs Department has been maintaining regular coordination with producers, technicians, artists’ associations, guilds and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful working environment across the Bengali entertainment industry. Necessary directions have also been issued to maintain smooth operations.

Taking note of the government’s report, Justice Amrita Sinha expressed satisfaction with the present situation and ordered the disposal of the petition filed by the directors. However, the court also directed the Information & Cultural Affairs Department to continue monitoring the situation to ensure that artists, directors, technicians and all industry workers can carry out their work without any obstruction.

The development comes after significant administrative changes within the Tollywood industry, following which the work environment has reportedly improved. Shooting schedules for films and television serials have resumed without interruption, signalling a return to stability for the Bengali entertainment sector.

With the High Court closing the matter, the immediate legal uncertainty surrounding Tollywood’s work environment has come to an end, offering relief to filmmakers and industry professionals.
