It may sound like a quirky love story from its title, but ‘Nibbā Nibbi’ promises something far darker and more unpredictable. Directed by Tathagata Mukherjee, the upcoming ZEE5 Bangla Original has unveiled its trailer, offering a glimpse into a gripping mix of romance, action, mystery and dark comedy.
The story revolves around characters played by Sauraseni Maitra and Rishav Basu, whose chance encounter takes them on an unexpected and dangerous journey. What begins as a relationship soon turns into a desperate escape filled with guns, violence, secrets and powerful people.
At the heart of the story is a hard drive containing sensitive and secret information about influential people. When the drive ends up in the hands of the young couple, they find themselves on the run, travelling across Bengal while facing one dangerous situation after another.
The trailer also explores the darker side of modern relationships, including possessiveness, control, emotional dependence and toxicity. However, the film balances these serious themes with an unusual dose of black humour.
Action appears to be a major component of Nibbā Nibbi. The trailer features gunshots, fights, bloodshed and intense chase sequences. Sauraseni Maitra‘s character appears particularly unconventional, with the actress seen in several intense action sequences, including moments where she takes up a gun.
Nibbā Nibbi marks the first on-screen pairing of Souraseni Maitra and Rishav Basu. The cast also includes Shankar Chakraborty, Shantilal Mukherjee, Joy Badlani, Debaprasad Halder and Debashis Roy, among others.
According to director Tathagata Mukherjee, the film’s central idea can be summed up as “Fun with Guns”. The story follows two unconventional young people who simply want to live life on their own terms but are repeatedly forced to run because of circumstances beyond their control.
The film is positioned as ZEE5 Bangla’s first Bengali direct-to-digital original movie of the year. With its combination of romance, action, mystery and dark humour, Nibbā Nibbi aims to offer something different from conventional Bengali romantic stories.
‘Nibbā Nibbi’ will premiere on ZEE5 Bangla on August 14, 2026.
