Mumbai: Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have a new reason to celebrate. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has stormed the Indian box office with a historic opening, setting a new benchmark for Hollywood releases in the country. Starring Tom Holland as the friendly neighbourhood superhero, the film has surpassed the long-standing opening-day record held by Avengers: Endgame, making it the biggest debut ever for a non-Indian film in India.

The superhero blockbuster reportedly earned around ₹70 crore gross on its opening day, driven by exceptional advance bookings, sold-out premium format screenings, and a massive turnout across multiplexes. The film’s debut has comfortably eclipsed Avengers: Endgame, which had held the record since its 2019 release.

Released on July 31, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks a fresh chapter in Peter Parker’s journey. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film moves beyond the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and follows a more grounded, street-level adventure while introducing new challenges for the beloved Marvel hero.

The response from Indian audiences has been overwhelming. IMAX and other premium format shows witnessed near-capacity occupancy in major cities, while social media was flooded with fan reactions praising Tom Holland’s performance and the film’s emotional storytelling. The impressive opening further highlights the enduring popularity of the Spider-Man franchise in India.

Trade analysts expect the momentum to continue through the weekend, with the film projected to deliver one of the biggest opening weekends ever for a Hollywood title in the Indian market. If the current trend holds, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could emerge as one of the highest-grossing international releases of the year in India.
